Form 483 response

Got a Form 483? Respond in 15 business days.

FDA considers responses received within 15 business days before deciding on next steps such as a warning letter. Claraxis helps OTC, personal care and consumer products manufacturers find the real root causes, fix them, and show the evidence.

The problem

Where 483 responses go wrong.

Fixing the example, not the system

The response corrects the one batch record the investigator saw, but not the process that produced it. FDA reads that as the problem continuing.

“Retrained the operator”

Root cause stops at human error and the corrective action is retraining. Repeat observations often start here.

Promises without proof

Commitments with no dates, owners or evidence. FDA weighs what you have done and can show, not what you plan to do.

How Claraxis helps

A response FDA can verify.

  1. Triage every observation in the first 48 hours: risk, scope, owner
  2. Root cause that goes past “operator error”, checked across products, lines and sites
  3. Immediate corrections plus systemic corrective actions, with dates and owners
  4. Evidence packages: revised procedures, training records, data, photos
  5. A clear, observation-by-observation response letter drafted with your quality unit
  6. Effectiveness checks after the response, so the same finding doesn’t return

Questions

Answered.

How long do we have to respond to a Form 483?

A response is not legally required, but FDA’s policy is to consider responses it receives within 15 business days of the inspection’s close before deciding whether to take further action such as a warning letter.

What should a 483 response include?

For each observation: what you corrected immediately, the root cause, the systemic corrective and preventive actions, who owns them, when they will be done, and the evidence that shows it.

Can Claraxis help after the 15 days have passed?

Yes. A late or weak response can still be strengthened with an update to FDA, and the corrective actions still need to be done and proven before the next inspection.

Is this legal advice?

No. Claraxis provides operational and quality systems support alongside your quality unit. Bring in regulatory counsel where legal judgment is needed, especially if a warning letter is likely.
